Livingstone
Points out that any link between media violence and violent behaviour doesnt mean media violence CAUSES the behaviour
Defining Violence
Is difficult as it could include things from Boxing and murders in TV dramas to parents hitting children and cartoon fights. Everyone hasnt opinions on what violence truly is however this may be difference to what researchers believe violence is
Gauntlett
critcises experimental studies on violence like the Bandura doll study as people behave very differently when they know they are being studied, particularly children
Experiments are short term
which means you can only measure the immediate effects of media violence in a experimental situation. For example particpants may be more violent immediately after watching a violent film however you cant measure if violent acts caused a month later or so were a result of being exposed to media violence
Everyone is exposed to media
which means it difficult to compare a group that has been exposed to media violence with one that hasnt
